Wood is the customary material used to frame and build houses today. Even seemingly brick” houses really just boast a brick exterior on top of wooden frames. Wood is easy to procure, light and makes a beautiful building.
The problem with wood, though, is that it just doesnt hold up well, over time or pressure. If you get wood wet, it molds and rots. If you dry it out too much, it cracks. If you live in certain parts of the world, there is a high likelihood that termites might be eating away at the wooden supports of your house as we speak. It burns easily. Wood is beautiful to look at, but, since it is organic, it simply does not last the way some other materials do.
Steel has many unique advantages, and none of these problems. It does not rot, crack, or burn. It resists mold and holds no attraction whatsoever for termites. It is both lighter and stronger than wood constructions. Steel is a very resilient material indeed, and one that holds up under high winds, hail and other forms of extreme weather. Steel buildings are made to very high standards, designed to withstand anything that might come along. It is also no longer true that wood frame houses are much better to look at than steel ones, since a steel home can have the same exteriors a wooden house does.
However, it is true that wooden frame construction offers you even more variety than steel does. The total price of a steel house may be cheaper than a wooden one or it may not, depending on what extras and features you choose. Not matter the advantages, some people will still always prefer to have their houses built in the traditional fashion, out of personal preference and sentiment.
